Jacob Misiorowski recorded 250 strikeouts in the 2026 season. This stat marks him as the first pitcher to reach that total since Sandy Koufax in 1963. Misiorowski is a 24-year-old right-hander from Grain Valley.
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night in St. Petersburg. This victory secured the franchise's first World Series title in 58 seasons. Misiorowski served as the winning pitcher for the series.
He threw 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball in Game 5. The pitcher left the mound in the bottom of the sixth inning due to a cramp in his right leg. The Brewers held a 4-0 lead at that time. The bullpen preserved the advantage for the final two and a half innings.
Manager Pat Murphy chose to save Misiorowski for the final game. The team did not use him in Game 4, which went to extra innings. This decision allowed the Brewers to avoid a sweep the previous night. Misiorowski started the clincher instead.
The 6-foot-7 hurler finished the regular season with a 16-5 record. He was named an NL All-Star for the second consecutive year. His teammate Aaron Ashby, a Park Hill High School graduate, set a postseason record for consecutive scoreless innings as a reliever on Tuesday.
OptaStats notes that Misiorowski is the first pitcher since 1963 to combine 250 strikeouts with a sub-2.00 ERA. He also won the World Series clincher. The league will announce the NL Cy Young Award winner on Nov. 11. Misiorowski is the heavy favorite for the honor.
