Raygine Glentasia Evans, 28, was arrested on Wednesday morning following a fatal crash in South Los Angeles that occurred five weeks ago. Detectives from the LAPD Metropolitan Division and South Traffic Division located Evans at 10:30 a.m. on October 28.

On September 22, Evans was driving a blue Nissan Sentra on 60th Street and 10th Avenue. Police reported she was traveling faster than 80 mph and ran a stop sign at the intersection. Her vehicle struck two pedestrians walking in the area. Hernan Martinez, 16, died from his injuries. His sister, Vicky, 14, sustained severe injuries and was hospitalized.

Witnesses and video evidence indicate Evans and a passenger exited the car after the impact. They gathered items from the vehicle and fled on foot. A driver of a red Honda Accord then picked them up at an unknown location.

LAPD officials noted that Evans had a history of traffic violations. She had nine previous tickets for reckless driving and running stop signs. Detectives also linked her to a series of robberies across Los Angeles County, including ten incidents within LAPD jurisdiction.

Evans was booked into custody on charges of murder, grand theft, and shoplifting with two or more priors. She is currently held in lieu of $3.2 million in bail. City Council members and police officials are scheduled to hold a news conference at 9 a.m. on Thursday to discuss the case. Family members of the victims are also expected to address the public during that event.
