The Philadelphia Eagles lost their fifth consecutive game on Monday night, falling 38-21 to the Dallas Cowboys. The defeat extends the franchise's losing streak to its longest since 2016, deepening the crisis surrounding the team's 2-5 record.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to blood clots in his lungs. Backup quarterback Tanner McKee started in his absence but struggled to keep the offense moving. He completed 23 of 35 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those scores went to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. The other touchdown pass was caught by George Pickens. Prescott also ran in a two-point conversion to extend Dallas's lead in the third quarter.
Running back Javonte Williams had a breakout performance for the Cowboys. He rushed for a career-high 155 yards and a touchdown. His game marked the first time a Dallas player has run for 150 or more yards since Ezekiel Elliott did so in 2018. The Cowboys finished the night with 204 total rushing yards.
Saquon Barkley returned to the field after missing more than two games with a hamstring injury. He scored an eight-yard touchdown run early in the game. Despite the return, Barkley appeared limited by his injury and spent time at the sideline medical tent. He finished with 62 yards on seven carries.
The Eagles managed only one touchdown in the second half. McKee orchestrated a drive that consumed nearly ten minutes of the third quarter. He connected with rookie Makai Lemon for a four-yard score to give Philadelphia a 21-20 lead. The team failed to score again after that play.
Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey kicked three field goals of 55, 27, and 24 yards. The final kick increased the Dallas lead to 31-21. Late in the fourth quarter, Eagles linebacker DeMarvion Overshown intercepted a pass from McKee.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame before the game. He bought the franchise in 1994. Under his ownership, the team has played in four Super Bowls and won two championships. Lurie delivered a brief speech at halftime but did not hold a pregame news conference, leaving coach Nick Sirianni as the primary voice regarding Hurts' condition.
The Eagles will travel to Washington on Sunday night to face another struggling NFC East rival. The Cowboys will host the Arizona Cardinals the following Sunday. Philadelphia currently trails the New York Giants, who hold the division lead with a 4-2-1 record.
