The deal goes live in early 2027.

The Walt Disney Co. and Channel 4 agreed to integrate the U.K. broadcaster’s main HD channel and on-demand library directly into Disney+ subscriptions in the U.K. and Ireland. The partnership, described by both sides as a landmark first, allows Disney+ customers to watch Channel 4’s linear feed without paying an additional fee. The streamer will also carry specific titles on a day-and-date basis, meaning viewers can watch episodes on Disney+ at the same time they air on the linear channel. Named shows included in this simultaneous release model are the drama Maya, the comedy Stepping Up, and the reality series Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Disney+ general manager for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Karl Holmes, called this the most ambitious collaboration in the company’s EMEA region. He noted that local free-to-air partners drive a large share of Disney+ growth, citing a 30 percent increase in EMEA subscribers over the past 18 months. Holmes stated that the deal aims to bring Channel 4’s commissioning power to Disney’s younger demographic. Data from U.K. measurement firm BARB shows a disparity in audience age profiles. Disney+ draws 17 percent of its viewing from ages 16 to 34, while Channel 4 draws only 10 percent from that group. Conversely, 63 percent of Channel 4 viewing hours come from people aged 55 and older, a figure that stands at 11 percent for Disney+.

Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra said the move aligns with a digital-first strategy aimed at reaching viewers in new locations. She emphasized that the partnership complements, rather than replaces, Channel 4’s owned services. The linear channel and streaming service will remain the primary homes for the majority of the broadcaster’s output. Dogra added that preserving the Channel 4 brand identity within the Disney+ interface was a non-negotiable condition for the broadcaster.

Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. Disney Entertainment chairman Adam Smith framed the deal as part of a global strategy to pair local programming with a premium streaming environment. He said the partnership serves fans in the U.K. and Ireland by adding culturally relevant content to the platform. Both executives indicated they expect to expand the scope of the relationship over time, potentially involving more Disney content on Channel 4 and deeper operational integration.

The integration will feature a dedicated Channel 4 section on the Disney+ interface. This section will mirror the navigation and user experience of the rest of the streaming service. Viewers will have access to hundreds of hours of scripted and unscripted content, including titles such as Big Mood, Tip Toe, and 24 Hours in A&E. Disney said it will announce further specifics on launch timing and the full content slate in the coming period.

This agreement follows similar deals Disney+ struck with European broadcasters including ITV, Italy’s RAI, Germany’s ARD and ZDF, Portugal’s SIC, and Spain’s RTVE and Atresmedia. Holmes described the Channel 4 pact as the culmination of lessons learned from those prior partnerships. He said the company is still testing what works best in terms of presentation and engagement for these local titles within the Disney+ ecosystem.
